[ Like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth. She knows that's not what it's called, but annoying Steve about sports is always funny, and it certainly settles her in a way that she really needs right now, almost as much as the familiar burn in her lungs as she inhales.
Holding the smoke in her lungs, she reaches up and offers the joint to Steve, either uncaring that people are watching her smoke weed in the parking lot or not realizing what a spectacle she is right now. It hardly matters; what matters is that she's already feeling miles more confident, her posture easing a little as she braces one hand on the metal of Steve's car and leans in close to him in a half-assed effort to hide what they're doing. ]

[It's hard to tell when Eddie is actually being serious or busting his balls about a sport. Regardless, it does slightly annoy him that she has no knowledge of basketball. Any sport for that matter.
Steve shifts his own body as he moves to pluck the lit joint from Eddie's lips. He takes his own hit, holding the smoke in his lungs before blowing it up towards the sky.

She watches the picture Steve paints as he lifts his chin and blows the smoke in his lungs away from her, the way his throat stretches, the way the light from the floodlights attached to the gym limn him with a bright white glow like he's some kind of saint in a painting. It's deeply irritating, how attractive he can be sometimes. She doesn't know what she's done to warrant having his friendship. She's grateful for it. For him.

Steve takes another hit from the joint, inhaling the smoke and holding it a little longer in his lungs. He's actually pretty thankful that Eddie offered to smoke up before the game. It's easing his own nerves a bit, chilling him out. He parts his lips to allow the smoke to spill from them, his eyes trying their best not to focus so much on Eddie and how close she is.

[ Apparently she learned more football terms through osmosis than basketball, but who cares. They're all sports with balls and too much testosterone. Give her a complicated riff any day, she thinks scales are way more impressive than touchdowns or three-pointer throws.

[ She doesn't really know what he's telling her to stop, but she assumes it's the "good guy" comment, or her thanking him yet again. She thinks it's important that he hears it, though. He's a good friend. This is above and beyond for many people she knows, even if she didn't take into account the whole "ditching his date" part of the evening.
But she does drop it, sighing and shaking her head at him before she reaches out and grabs his wrist and pulls his hand up to her mouth so she can duck down a little and suck a hit off the joint he's still holding pinched between his fingers. ]

Eddie has a thick skin. Carol couldn't hurt her any worse than her own parents did, and it infuriated her. Which, admittedly, was one of the reasons Eddie made it so blatantly obvious that she didn't care what anyone thought. It was entertaining to see how worked up she could get Carol to get before things came to a head.
She doesn't remember Steve really participating in any of the hazing, which might be why she's been so quick to forgive and forget. Or maybe it's just the bond formed by nearly dying together. That kind of stuff is hard to get around.
She hums softly as she straightens, lifting her hand off his and ruffling her fingers through her hair to get it out of her face a little, her eyes closing for a moment before she shakes herself and twists her mouth to blow the smoke away from them both. ] Okay. You ready? [ She shivers. ]

Serious issues didn't start to arise until Jonathan Byers and Nancy Wheeler came into the picture. The end result cost him Nancy along with Tommy and Carol. Steve had told himself that the loss of Tommy and his incredibly bitchy girlfriend weren't much of a loss but after the break up with Nancy-

Oh, are we trading? [ That would definitely be one way to get people talking. If Eddie showing up in an old Hawkins High jacket wasn't enough, Steve rocking up in a beat up leather jacket with the chain on the wrist is basically them taking out a billboard along Main Street. ] If I had known it was this easy to get you in some better clothes I'd have done this much earlier.
[ Like this whole thing was her idea.
Still, she shrugs out of her own thinner jacket and hands it off to Steve so they can switch. As she shrugs his on, she tries not to breathe in too obviously: Steve's fancy rich-boy cologne scent is strongest at the collar and it's all she can focus on right now. She's terrified her cheeks are pink enough that he'll notice. She's trying to be co, but it's harder than she thought it would be. ]

[He argues as they make the switch. Steve also figures that maybe wearing his jacket will make Eddie feel a bit more covered in her appearance. She's going to be warm and snug regardless.
Steve pulls Eddie's jacket on, it's a bit of a tight fit considering Steve's a bit bigger in the chest, arms and shoulders. He inhales the scent of leather, weed and is that a hint of perfume? It smells-

[ She's laughing softly as she tugs on the hem of his jacket, the edge barely covering her ass. She's almost as tall as Steve, but she's a little longer in the torso than he is, and while the skirt makes her legs look longer than they are, his jacket is still sitting at just about where a jacket should. If she did it up it would probably hug her hips nice and snug.
Steve looks good in her leather. It's a little too snug to be practical, but he makes it look good, his broad swimmer's shoulders stretching the leather out just enough to really accentuate the shape of his torso. Eddie has to clear her throat a little more than expected as she pinches off the joint and tucks what's left of it into her pocket.
She jostles her elbow against his and takes a step away from his car. ]
